Paul McGonnell began spending time at Dorothy House when his wife Maria came to us needing end of life cancer care. We helped Paul, a Geordie and working man to his boots, following Maria’s death, organising for him to join our Men’s Cook, Share, Eat group.
Run by our Occupational Therapy Team and aimed at men whose wives have always done the cooking, it’s a time with other men in the same boat, and a chance to learn new skills.
Through the group, Paul discovered a new-found love for cooking, and is now part of The Bakers Dozen initiative: whenever there’s a fundraiser that needs cake, we call The Bakers Dozen and they leap into action, delivering sponges, muffins and cookies wherever and whenever they’re needed.
